About the School
Shangla Girls School & College (SGSC) is the first higher-secondary, not-for-profit school for girls in Barkana, Shangla. Located in a remote mountainous region, the school serves 700 students from K-12 with over 50 teachers. Spread across 20 kanal, SGSC offers modern facilities, including a basketball court, indoor sports, science and computer labs, a library, and audio-visual-equipped classrooms. About the Role
Provide psycho-social support through the following:
- Counsel students individually and in groups
- Offer grief or emergency counseling (including safeguarding issues)
- Meet parents to provide updates on students on an as-needed basis
- Follow the referral system; teachers -> coordinators -> counselor
- Train teachers to identify warning signs of a child’s mental and physical distress
- Conduct classroom observations to identify students directly
- Identify, support, and counsel parents of students with special needs
Provide preventive care and psycho-social education through the following:
- Research and document school’s counseling needs.
- Facilitate life skills and psychosocial support sessions around core issues of emotional well being and child protection.
- Facilitate workshops and training for teachers and parents to address common issues.
- Develop and execute support group sessions for students on common issues.
- Conduct occasional sessions on psycho-social education for the parents.
Location
A full-time position based at the school in Shangla, KPK.
Requirement
- We are seeking a female counselor/therapist who is fluent in Pashto and trained in counseling or therapy.
- The ideal candidate holds a degree in psychology (BS or MA), preferably in developmental or clinical psychology, and has experience working with children.
- This role requires strong emotional intelligence, empathy, and the ability to navigate challenging and under-resourced environments. Additionally, the candidate should possess excellent oral communication skills in English, Pashto and Urdu.
Experience
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience. Experience with educational institutes is preferred.
