Zindagi Trust has taken a significant step forward in its mission to improve public education by successfully advocating for meaningful reform in how government school teachers are evaluated. Under the leadership of Zindagi Trust President Shehzad Roy, years of dedicated efforts have led to the replacement of the outdated Annual Confidential Report (ACR) with the modern Performance Evaluation Report (PER) for primary school teachers across Sindh.
The old ACR system offered no real measure of a teacher’s effectiveness in the classroom, failing to evaluate crucial aspects like teaching quality, student engagement, or lesson planning. It left little incentive for teachers to grow professionally or improve their skills. Recognizing this gap, Zindagi Trust advocated for an evaluation system that reflects actual teaching practices.
The newly adopted PER represents a transformative shift: it assesses teachers on their ability to manage classrooms, plan effective lessons, and actively engage students. This focus on practical teaching performance not only encourages teachers to improve but also aims to raise the standard of education for students in government schools.
This policy milestone highlights Zindagi Trust’s unwavering commitment to systemic change through collaboration with the government and other stakeholders. Building on this success, Zindagi Trust now plans to extend the improved evaluation system to teachers in grades 9 to 16 at secondary schools, ensuring consistent standards of accountability and professional growth across all levels of public education.
