December
2011 |
Students
from across Zindagi Trust’s network of schools brainstormed
and submitted their creative ideas to the world’s largest
Design for Change School Challenge, where children aged 8-13
identify and propose solutions to the problems their local
communities face. |
| |
4
of our schools were selected among the top 35 projects
from thousands of entries nationwide. SMB Fatima Jinnah
School and I am Paid to Learn schools in Manzoor Colony,
Zia Colony and Drigh Road won prizes in the Boldest
Idea, the Quickest Impact and the Maximum Potential
for Lasting Change categories. |
|
| |
Some
of the ideas our students developed included an effort to
promote awareness about safe drinking water, a school enrollment
drive, a viral campaign for first-aid training and a campaign
to educate against child marriages. Read

| Child Sexual
Abuse Awareness Workshop |
| The
parents of students of classes 3-4 at Fatima Jinnah School were invited
to an awareness session on child sexual abuse led by our partner NGO,
Aahung. They were educated about their child’s development,
behavioural changes to look out for and the likely causes of abuse
at that age.
They learned how to prevent such circumstances and
how to protect their children from them. They participated with
enthusiasm and supported the awareness programme, leaving with a
good understanding of how to detect and handle a child abuse situation.
The workshop was supervised by Nazo (Aahung) and led by the art
teachers she trained in the abuse awareness course.
