Zindagi Trust’s school management has introduced Inter-House tournaments for the major sports played at SMB Fatima Jinnah School. This past Saturday, the Inter-House Throwball Tournament was held where teams representing each of the four Houses (Red, Green, Yellow and Blue) took the field and the non-playing students watched and cheered their House.
Each House team was selected from players in Classes 5 to 10, so the students got a chance to play with those younger and older than them. Throwball is one of the newer sports for the girls, so the tournament helped everyone in the school, in addition to those on the team, develop enthusiasm for the games as well as get familiar with the rules and regulations.
A total of 72 students participated in the throwball event – 18 in each House team’s squad – which generated a lot of interest in the game.
In the first match, Blue House took on Green House. Blue won the first set 10-7, but Green won the second 10-1 to make it a set a piece. In the 3rd set Green won 5-0 and qualified for the next round, which was effectively the final.
The second match was played between Red House and Yellow House. Red won the first set 10-7, but Yellow equalized by winning the second 10-4. Red held on to their momentum and went on to win the third and finalset 5-3, thus qualifying for the final against Green.
The final was played between Red House and Green House immediately after the round matches ended. Red won the first set 10-8 and the second 10-0, thus winning the match in straight sets as well as winning the first Inter-House Throwball tournament.
We hope that this successful throwball tournament, along with other Inter-House tournaments, becomes a cherished feature of the students’ sports schedule. Held on Saturdays, these competitions aim to promote the spirit of competition among the younger players who might not have had the chance to represent a school team in a city-wide competition. They also attempt to build school and house spirit among both the participating students and those who are spectators.
